Historic Visit of a New Milestone in DPRK-Indonesia Friendship
THIS year marks the 58th anniversary when President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il paid historic official goodwill visit to the Republic of Indonesia.
President Kim Il Sung together with Chairman Kim Jong Il paid an official goodwill visit to Indonesia from April 10 to 20, 1965 at the kind invitation of Soekarno, the first President of Indonesia. During the visit, he also participated in the commemorative event held on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, and marked a new milestone in developing the friendly relations between the DPRK and Indonesia. He also made an undying contribution to the realization of the cause of global independence.
At the talks and dialogues held during the visit, President Kim Il Sung discussed with President Soekarno the issues on further increasing mutual support and cooperation in the struggle for building a new and just society under the high banner of independence against imperialism. They also clarified common position of the governments and peoples of the two countries to strengthen unity and cooperation among the newly-emerging countries so as to actively promote the realization of the cause of global independence.
President Soekarno accorded all possible sincerity and hospitality to President Kim Il Sung, paying special attention to his visit to Indonesia.
He saw to it that the special aircraft with President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il onboard is escorted by a formation of air fighters and organized a big-scale ovation of hundreds of thousands people along the routes. He also personally awarded President Kim Il Sung with the first class of the “Order of the Republic of Indonesia”.
While visiting the Bogor Botanical Garden together with President Kim Il Sung on April 13, 1965, he named the most beautiful and newly-cultivated orchid as Kimilsungia after the august name of President Kim Il Sung reflecting the boundless respect and ardent reverence of the Indonesian people.
This is how the Kimilsungia was born as an immortal flower praising a great man. It was cherished deep in the hearts of the two peoples as the eternal symbol of the friendship between the DPRK and Indonesia. The special bond of friendship forged between President Kim Il Sung and President Soekarno is being handed down along with the history of friendship between the DPRK and Indonesia.
The friendly relations between the two countries, with its cornerstone laid by President Kim Il Sung and President Soekarno, was carried forward and developed onto a new level thanks to Chairman Kim Jong Il and Ms. Megawati Soekarno Putri, the first daughter of President Soekarno.
He met with Ms. Megawati Soekarno Putri, who visited our country as the President in 2002 and in the capacity of the General Chairwoman of the Central Directive Council of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle in 2005, and opened a new chapter in the development of friendly relations between the DPRK and Indonesia.
On November 2021, true to the common wishes of the governments and peoples of the two countries who value and desire to further expand and develop the long-standing traditional relations of friendship and cooperation, a monument to Kimilsungia was newly erected with due ceremony in the Bogor Botanical Garden in Indonesia.
The history and tradition of the DPRK-Indonesia friendly relations are precious heritage that should be inherited and defended by the governments and peoples of our two countries. It is the unshakable stand of the government of the DPRK to expand and develop the relations between the two countries in conformity with the common interests and desire of the peoples of the two countries.
The long-standing traditional relations of friendship between the DPRK and Indonesia are marked with the devotion and efforts of the preceding leaders. It will, as ever, continue to develop invariably onto a higher stage in line with the desire and requirements of the peoples of the two countries along with the Kimilsungia, the eternal symbol of friendship.
