Speech made by General Secretary Kim Jong Un at National Defence Development Exhibition
The respected Kim Jong Un made a commemorative speech at the opening ceremony of the National Defence Development Exhibition "Self-Defence--2021" on October 11, Juche 110(2021).
In the speech he warmly congratulated those participating in the National Defence Development Exhibition which intensively shows the advance, modernity and bravery of the DPRK and said:
The National Defence Development Exhibition "Self-Defence--2021" which opened today is more significantly celebrating and conspicuously glorifying the founding anniversary of the WPK this year.
As its name tells, this National Defence Development Exhibition is a great festival which shows intensively and intuitively the grand ambition, leadership ability and practical executive ability of our Party invariably maintaining the invincible line of self-defence to make a new turning point in strengthening the national defence capability and which demonstrates the miraculous development of the defence science and munitions industry our state has reached and their brilliant prospect.
The past five-year course of developing the defence capability with the crises of harsh trials and the moments of joy filling our hearts with pride was the one of great victory, the very glorious and proud road of revolution and patriotism that made every step greatly honourable for the Party and the country, for the people and the posterity.
Kim Jong Un, in the name of the Party and the government and on behalf of the entire people, sent warm thanks to the scientists, technicians and meritorious persons in the field of national defence industry and all workers in the field of munitions industry who have rendered services to bringing about the world's powerful defence capability the DPRK had failed to have in the history of its building and to making distinguished latest achievements of realizing the long cherished desire of the people, and extended his heartfelt thanks to all the people.
He expressed the belief that the exhibition would be an exhibition of victors summing up our great victory, an exhibition of encouragement adding infinite strength and courage to the national defence field and the people across the country, and a progressive exhibition promoting faster and more vigorous advance and development of Korean-style socialist construction.
Kim Jong Un said:
The essence of the defence policy of our Party is to safeguard the country and people by ourselves and deter any threats and challenges with the powerful defence capability which is steadily developed and improved and defend peace reliably and unwaveringly. Historically, our nation has suffered ordeals by the outsiders' aggression and has to build socialism amid the constant threats of the hostile forces which are lasting century after century. Stemming from the lesson of our national history and the demand and peculiarity of the Korean revolution, the work of strengthening the national defence is essential and vital important state affairs our Party, government and people should not give up even a moment.
The military danger created before our state due to the military tension around the Korean peninsula is different with that 10 years ago, that five years ago, nay that three years ago. We can know it through the contents of military exercises of various code names frequently conducted by the United States and south Korea under the pretext of coping with threat, though they openly talk about peace, cooperation and prosperity. And the recent attempt of south Korea for the modernization of armaments which gets undisguised all the more enabled us to guess easily the future when the military surroundings of the Korean peninsula will be changed.
Though they do all they want, the south Korean authorities go the lengths of abusing even our test of conventional weapons as an armed provocation, threat and inappropriate act inciting tension and of taking the lead in uttering the anti-DPRK voices of the US-led hostile forces in a bid to deprive us of our right to development of self-reliant defence capability.
South Korea has fettered our development of self-reliant defence capability by usurping the illegal UN resolutions and is hell-bent on arms buildup under the so-called just signboard of coping with threat it set unilaterally. The hypocritical attitude of south Korea and the tacit patronage of the United States continue to injure the feelings of the north and the south and their unlimited dangerous attempts to strengthen the military strength are destroying the military balance of the Korean peninsula and increasing the military instability and danger.
Under the preposterous plea of containing our threat, south Korea undisguisedly revealed on several occasions its desire to gain the upper hand of us in the military muscle and exactly, justified itself with the pretext of containing our threat and defending peace. South Korea defined us not as the partner for dialogue and cooperation but as the party to be contained. It is an intensive expression of the anti-DPRK hostility of south Korea which is too inveterate to be concealed though it pretends not to do so.
We express a great pity for such greedy ambition of south Korea and its double, illogical and brigandish attitude of furthering unfairness towards the other party and injuring the feelings. In case it intends to keep impairing even our right of self-defence in the future, we will never pardon but resist it with our powerful action.
If south Korea does not find fault with us doggedly and if it does not slander our exercise of sovereignty, I am sure that there will be no such happening as inciting the tension on the Korean peninsula. If not, there will be no need for us to argue with south Korea and there is no reason to do so.
Kim Jong Un said the cruel history of using arms against the fellow countrymen on this land should not be repeated again, and continued:
As I make clear again and again, we do not argue about a war against somebody, but foster our war deterrent to prevent the war itself and defend the national power. The war deterrent we talk about and the deterrent to the north south Korea talks about are different in the meaning of the vocabularies and in essence. Our principal enemy is the war itself, not any specific state or force like south Korea and the United States.
We should not judge the prevailing situation impromptu, impulsively and subjectively, but coolly and correctly.
Recently the United States frequently sends the signal that it is not hostile to our state, but there is no any reliable reason of action for it. What is clear is that the instability of the situation on the Korean peninsula cannot be easily removed due to the source of the United States.
Under the present unstable situation created on the Korean peninsula, fostering our military muscle constantly corresponding to it is the demand of time of our revolution and the supreme duty we assumed for the revolution and the future. The reality demands us put spurs to preparing the strength and means capable of controlling the practical concerns and threats in a stable way without any slightest self-complacency and standstill.
The efforts to possess powerful military muscle should be a self-defensive and obligatory due right and core national policy a sovereign state must not neglect even a moment in both peaceful environment and confrontational situation. We will resist to all the despicable acts of the hostile forces inciting military tension on the Korean peninsula with our resolute and determined attitude and remove the causes endangering the basis of the peaceful environment and thus exert all our efforts to ensuring lasting peace on the Korean peninsula.
The Eighth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea presented specific tasks for the sectors of national defence science and munitions industry to carry out the second revolution in national defence industry during the five-year plan period and thus make our superiority in military technology a more irreversible one.
Thanks to the firm will and correct leadership of our Party and the defence scientists and munitions workers who are unconditionally loyal to the Party and the revolution, more brilliant successes will be made in accomplishing our just patriotic cause and the war deterrent, the strategic strength which got firmer, more perfect and stronger will defend the security and future of our country and people.
The real purpose that we hold the National Defence Development Exhibition on a large scale is, of course, to encourage the defence scientists and technicians and the munitions workers and infuse the people with new confidence and courage on this occasion, but the main point is to more powerfully promote the development of the defence capability of the country.
As I stress once again, it is the most important policy and target and firm will of our Party to possess the invincible military muscle nobody can touch and keep strengthening it, Kim Jong Un said and called upon all to remember the pledge we made before the country, revolution and people and devote all their soul and body, wisdom and passion to the sacred cause of consolidating the defence capability of our great state in every way with conviction of victory and self-confidence.
